Alex Taylor Enters 200 MPH Club at Bonneville With ProCharger BOOST!

Alex Taylor Bonneville Record Setter

ProCharged Racer, Alex Taylor, Pilots the HOT ROD Special 1980 Chevy Camaro and BREAKS SCTA record

The legendary “red hat” of the 200 MPH Club at Bonneville Salt Flats stands as a crowning achievement for all racing drivers and speed freaks alike. Now Alex Taylor can add this achievement to her racing resume as she joins the 200 MPH Club and setting a Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) Record, breaking the previous record by 11 MPH.

WHAT DID THEY DO IT IN?

As one of the most storied cars in SCTA history, it was only fitting for Alex to pilot the HOT ROD Special 1980 Chevy Camaro on her quest to break a record over 200 mph. Owned by Tonya and Keith Turk, you might recognize this duo from HOT ROD Drag Week’s tech group. Guided by Drag Week legend, Dennis Taylor, the team updated the car in preparation for this event and gearing up to hit the salt flats. Going through and meticulously upgrading and planning in order to achieve that golden 200+ mpg goal.

Powered by a 347ci Small block, with a 4.125-inch bore and 3.250-inch stroke. With a billet crank, billet rods, massive air-to-water intercooler, and custom made slugs. Automotive icon, David Freiburger, worked on supplying the custom grind, as well as adding the set of custom bushed .904 roller lifters. Of course this record setting build wouldn’t be complete without some ProCharger boost to spice up the power band and performance. Entered in a blown class at Bonneville, the team opted for our ProCharger F-1A-94 supercharger, which was set at 18 psi of boost but the blower is rated for a max of 1,300HP, so there is plenty of room to turn up the boost!

RECORD SETTING SPEED

Alex and the team began this mission with qualifying, where she set a top speed of 236.182 mph. Following it up with a second pass later in the day, after a brief tech inspection and impound, with a 235 mph run. Her two-pass average of 235.638 mph not only earned her a place in the 200 mph Club but also broke the previous Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) record of 224.331 mph, set by David Parks in September 1996. A major congratulations to Alex Taylor and her team for this crowning achievement and we look forward to more ProCharged racing records!
